Part Detail Section
Although SDA provides great flexibility in terms of the cells that can be utilized in the rows before and after the part detail section, there are some very specific rules and conventions that must be followed in the part detail section for the tab to work properly within the SDA platform.
The basic rules and conventions are as follows:
- Excel configuration logic must be placed in column A, which is the Qty Calcd (quantity calculated) column.
- The cell should be protected and formatted in bold black font (using the CalcdCell style).
- If there is no configuration logic for the part, then a “0” should be placed in column A, and the cell should be unprotected and formatted in bold blue font (using the InputCell style).
- If there is configuration logic in column A, then column B should contain a quantity adjustment input cell with a default value of “0”, and the cell should be unprotected and formatted in bold blue font (using the InputCell style).
- The formula in column A should also reference the value in column B.
- Column C must contain the part number.
- Column D should contain the description for the part number, although this will be overwritten with the description contained in SDA’s Parts Master table when the configuration tab is brought into a live quote file.
- Column E can be optionally used for miscellaneous calculations or input cells.
- There should be no data or calculations in column F and beyond. SDA will insert data from the Parts Master table into these columns when the configuration tab is brought into a live quote file using the Get Tabs button.
In the graphic above, row 41 shows a typical configured part. Column A contains a protected configuration formula
(=IF(E40>0,E40,0)+B41)
that not only references Column E in the previous row (Column E can be optionally used for miscellaneous calculations or as an input cell), but also references the Qty Adj input cell in column B that enables users to make adjustments to the calculated quantity.
Rows 37-39 show typical parts that do not have associated configuration logic, meaning that they are configured based on direct user input into the unprotected column A cells.
For all part numbers that are added to a product tab, the part (and related information) must also be added to the Parts Master database. Although one can directly enter the new parts records into the Parts Master view one record at the time, the most efficient way to add records for multiple parts is via Architect Manager’s Import Function.
